Yes, you’d probably look ridiculous with those octopus-like appendages, but let’s be honest: as a parent, you already have barf in your hair and a mysterious stain on your pants, you can’t remember where you put your keys (again), and there’s likely a small human clinging to some part of you. So, ridiculous basically becomes a relative term. The Demi Hugger was created and designed by Demetra Papas, the CEO of Demi Innovations. After struggling to balance her purse, suitcase, and drink while on the way to visit her cousin, Demi realized that there had to be a product on the market to help secure items to a suitcase. After some initial research, she discovered that what she’d imagined didn’t exist–yet. She went to work designing and sewing up the first prototypes until she found one that was easy to use, versatile, and compact.
The first Demi Huggers were put on the market 3 years ago, and, today, Demi Innovations is a small, but busy family run business in Massachusetts. Demi pointed out to me that the neoprene hugger is unique from other travel products in that it has thick Velcro to secure the two sides, can be used either vertically or horizontally, and won’t slow you down through security with metal zips or snaps.
